As part of our CSR initiatives to impact our community, we recently organized a career day for fresh graduates to introduce them into the world of advertising and marketing and the opportunities that exist within.
The event held on the 11th of June at our premises and had as facilitators thought leaders within the Insight Redefini group touch on foundational topics to prepare future leaders for a career in advertising and marketing.
Uwem Afanide, our Chief Operating Officer said, “This initiative is to assist fresh graduates in Nigeria, interested in advertising, understand the pillars that make advertising an industry”.
The Group Managing Director of Insight Redefini, Dr. Ken Onyeali Ikpe approved of the career initiative, stating that the importance of equipping youths of today with the necessary knowledge missing from the academic curriculum is very paramount in Nigeria.
Out of all the entries received from the write-up challenge, we shortlisted 15 participants to partake in the career day. The write-up challenge focused on topical issues like ‘Cyberbullying’, ‘Internet Fraud’, ‘Drug Abuse’ and how it can be tackled among youths in Nigeria. The proposed idea had to show how it would be communicated on digital platforms and supported by any of the other mediums (TV, Radio, Print, and OOH).
Our Esteemed Facilitators at this maiden edition and the topics they spoke on include;
- Anthony Nwabuisi (The Impact of understanding YOU in Strategy)
- Busola Ekisola (Introduction to Financial Statements)
- Ijeoma Okafor (Overview of Media Negotiation and Buying)
- Franklin Ozekhome (Business Strategy & Its Impact On Advertising)
- Jimi Awosika (Building a Power Brand in the world of Disruption)
- Anurika Azubuike (Understanding the Role of Strategic Communication in Advertising)
- Joshua Akinbanjo (Understanding the Role of Activation in Advertising)
- Dr. Ken Onyeali Ikpe (Breaking Silos in Advertising/The Power of One)
The facilitators spoke on the principles of branding, different types of strategy, an overview of advertising and its importance, prerequisites to be taken into account, how to negotiate with media partners, managing advertising budget, the role PR plays in the media and tapping into the power of one. The participants also engaged in group activities to practice some of the things they had learned.
At the end of the 1-day event, Tolu, one of the participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn so much about how advertising and marketing works. Seeing the big picture of the role advertising plays for brands has given her a much-needed perspective into the positions she can apply for. We rounded off the event with a certificate of completion for all the participants.
The event will be held bi-annually, and the next edition promises to explore deeper aspects of advertising and marketing as well as some of the topics recommended by the participants of this edition.
Congratulations to the 15 participants. We are certain they have been guided on the right path to thread when it comes to advertising and marketing
